MEM-9924 MEMPHIS SHADES

FATS/SLIMS MOUNTING HARDWARE

FOR FXSTS/FLSTS SOFTAIL SPRINGER AND HERITAGE SPRINGER

TOOLS REQUIRED:                 7/16" Wrench                                                        3/16" Allen wrench (provided)

                                  6MM Allen or  1/4" Allen (Provided)                  2 - 9/16" Wrenches

                                  8MM Allen or 5/16" Allen

Always cover the gas tank and front fender to avoid possible damage during installation.

  1. Loosely install the windshield mounting plates onto the windshield, using the third bolt up and the bottom most bolt on

both sides of the back of the windshield. The mounting tabs should point away from the headlight when installed properly.

  1. Remove the 3/8" diameter upper shock mount bolt from the motorcycle; see Figure 1 for the location. Next, locate the original left and right fork mount bolts and remove them as well. Use Figures 1 and 2 for the location.

3.     Remove the acorn nut and the aluminum spools from the new stainless rod.  Install the new stainless rod provided through the left stainless tri-plate, the acorn nut should be on the same side as the small aluminum spools and the top point of the triangular shape must point upward. Non-heritage models place one of the black spacer washers on the rod after the stainless triangular bracket is in place.

  1. Slide the stainless rod through one of the large aluminum spools, then through the top shock mount.  Place the other large aluminum spool on the front brake side, followed by a black washer on non-Heritage models, then the right stainless bracket.  (MAKE SURE THAT THE TOP OF THE TRIANGULAR BRACKETS ARE POINTING UPWARD)

  1. Install the stainless acorn nut loosely; on non-heritage models re-install the original 5/16" fork mount bolts through the 5/16" slots on the stainless brackets. Heritage models place the black spacer washers in between the stainless bracket and the fork leg. The longer 5/16" screws and flat washers provided must be used on Heritage models. The longer of the two new 5/16" screws goes on the clutch cable side with the cable holders on the outside of the bracket.

  1. Tighten the 5/16" screws down first, followed by the stainless acorn nuts on the 3/8" rod.  Loosen the four mounting points on the small aluminum spools and slip the windshield plates into place. Adjust for angle and tighten all mounting bolts.

Care and Cleaning Instructions

To clean your windshield, use only warm water and a mild non-abrasive, dishwashing liquid. Use a soft cloth, such as a T-shirt or flannel cloth. To protect your windshield, please use Novus #2 to remove minor scratches, or use a polish like Memphis Shades Shinola which is specially designed for plastic windshields; glass cleansing agents will cause severe damage to your windshield and will void your warranty.

Never use any glass products, petroleum based chemicals, or cleaning agents with ammonia, bleach or any harsh chemicals. This includes Rain-X, brake fluid, acetone, and gasoline.
